Nicole Ari Parker, an American actress who has been featured in films and on television, in addition to on stage is best known for portraying Teri Joseph, a flamboyant attorney in the show on Showtime called Soul Food. Nikki Kodjoe became her stage name after her wedding. Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland she showed an aptitude for acting in her when she was a child and won a Best Actress award in an Maryland high school contest. She earned her acting degree from the New York University after working for 'The Washington Ballet Company', as well as performing in the theatre. Born from Mumbai, India and raised in Nigeria up to 7 years old, Contractor was well-informed about traveling around the globe and in a wide range of civilizations at an extremely young age. From the age of seven through nine, she was a student at boarding schools in London. Her family then relocated to Toronto and she resided there through the majority of her childhood. Contractor was a student and a classical dancer in Toronto. She was a student at the Etobicoke School of the Arts - a specialized arts high school that taught more than just dance but also drama. Contractor took the decision to study acting more seriously at age of 16 following almost 10 years dancing. After graduating high school, Contractor accepted a scholarship at The University of Toronto to pursue the dual field of sociology and psychology. In addition, she obtained a master's degree in Theater. After a single semester at the University, Contractor went to an open call audition for the play Pericles in the highly regarded, world-renowned Stratford Shakespeare Festival [Ontario, Canada and was offered the role of lead. The play was well-received for the 92 shows which she was a part of. She was awarded the award in 2002 for the Best Production of the Year from Canadian Critics. The conservatory in Stratford is home to eight males with four females, as well as a few others for a weeks crash course. The actress's spot in the next production was secured, and she was chosen as Hermia.
